Being a Popular Comic Writer
When you walk into a comic store and see all those comics on the shelves, there is a feeling which comes unto you and makes you believe that to be a comic writer is an easy task which you too could partake without much efforts and go aboard to enjoy the popularity and fame which comes with being a writer of a popular comic.
Nevertheless, this could be true, but in any kind of writing, there are several challenges which are usually encountered and not unless you know how to overcome them, no matter how good a writer you might be, you won’t be at a position to realize your dreams or benefit from the labor of your efforts.
There are several obstacles which might impede your fame as a comic writer and they include :
1) Lack of Ideas.
You see all those popular comic out there, The Punisher MAX, I killed Adolf Hitler, Avengers, Batman Spiderman et al, they have been a hit because of the storyline in them. It all boils down to the idea behind their plot and the way the whole point is driven out. Obviously when you get to writing such genres as comics, it means that you are a good writer who can write compelling articles. But when it comes to comics, they not only need to be good but the idea should be original.
What’s the solution to this? Where can you get the ideas that you yearn so much for to write a compelling comic which becomes popular? There are several solutions to this:
The things which surround us and happen around us should be give us the ideas on what we can write about. They happen for a reason and some happening can really create the much needed sensation for which when a comic is written can become a masterpiece.
When you research about what people love and that which makes them laugh and amused, then you are on the path to finding a winning topic for the next topic popular comic. You can use the social media, online forums and other platforms where fans of comics meet.
Most ideas that we get are not original but come about as a result of reading material relevant to the topics that we get ideas on. Therefore it’s beneficial to read extensively but make sure that you are reading materials which can generate ideas.
2) The Writer’s Block
Writing could be challenging and there’s a feeling that every writer, whether aspiring already establishing, feels when it’s difficult for them to write. Writers find themselves with no meaningful topic to write about, or may not be in the writing mood. This is usually referred to as writer’s block.
To overcome this as a writer, you will have to embrace several solutions:
Don’t write when you don’t feel like because of you’ve been doing this for quite some time. This is the perfect time for you to go out and have fun which helps rejuvenate both your mind and body.
Read relevant materials. Most writing obstacles come about because there are no ideas of the topics which might sell. Reading extensively on materials on your genre enables you to get info and ideas which could help you in your writing.
3) Lack of Confidence.
Comic writers lack confidence in several fields which include:
- The fear that the comic written may not be popular or well appreciated by the audience.
- Too much competition in the genre that you writing.
- Lack of clients who need comic work.
- Low pay for writing.
To overcome this obstacle, you will need to look for a genre that feel people can offer.
— Hang out in groups whereby people or organizations that may require your service might be seeking them. Like breast cancer organizations is a wonderful example, as I know my grandmother loves to participate and read comics.
— Get in touch with clients and other comic writer who will one time or the other are needing some services.
— Be ready to offer potential clients double the amount of service that you’d charge for a given service.
